Smokers’ Urine - Cancer Alert

April 20th, 2009 · 1 Comment

No Smoking

No Smoking

It has been discovered recently that smokers with high levels of certain byproducts of smoking in the urine - two substances called NNAL and cotinine had higher risks than normal of getting lung cancer ultimately. Smokers with high levels of both substances in the urine have been calculated as having a 8.5 times higher risk of developing lung cancer than comparable smokers with low levels.

While the studies merit further studying, it is indeed quite an astounding discovery. If these studies could be confirmed and laboratory tests could be made available for these substances, it would be a very strong argument for smokers who test positive for these byproducts to stop smoking immediately.
